So, I’m quickly approaching the end of my second week here at Imulus and am coming to realize all of the important things I have learned so quickly. There is a whole gamut of enticing technological apps out there that I didn’t even know existed! For example, just today my world has been expanded from simply knowing of applications such as YouTube and, well, YouTube, to learning about fancy things like Ooyala, Wistia, Jing, Word Press, Wufoo, and Dropbox.
After my latest discoveries I have gone from the days where “my” internet consisted of basic emails, Youtube, Facebook and checking the weather to using Jing to send my own home-made video to my boyfriend in Spain, which he seemed to enjoy. Ooh, maybe a bit too much information for my first “get-to-know-you” blog… Perhaps I should keep it professional. Check out what Jing can do in a few minutes! It’s amazing. So easy and fast and, well, professional. It’s so easy to use that even I picked it up in minutes! Ooyala and Wistia are also amazing options to YouTube since they host on a separate site so your own website won’t be bogged down with video options.
Next, if you haven’t checked out Dropbox, you should get on it! It’s a fabulous app, equipped with lovely sketched figure demos for simple minds like mine, and you can see how easy sharing can be. Dropbox lets you have access to your documents, photos and information all the time. You can have all your information saved to all your computers, phones and even on their website in case a fire or earthquake or even rapture happens to come along and wipe out your computer and/or phone. Phew. You can share large files with clients without sending them over email, you can send your bachelorette party pictures to your mom and you can always have access to all your documents and pictures no matter which one of your electronic device’s keys your fingers are tapping. Check out the Dropbox tour here and see what you think.
I also found a great way to create and customize forms so I can do anything from let my friends know I’m throwing a party to filling out a request for leave form when all the new apps and technology become too much for my little brain to handle. I can simply request time to retire to a beach and watch YouTube videos like before.
Finally, I learned that I can take all these words of wisdom and new-found technological discoveries and post them online in blog form to share with the world. Word Press walks you through how to set up your own blog, from brainstorming on a napkin to being published and famous. It gives style, flair, flash and a customized forum for you to broadcast all your afternoon daydreams. Gather all your loose notes stuffed in your pants pockets, napkin remnants and journal pages, hop onto WordPress, cross your fingers and work toward becoming famous.
